The Lies We Tell Ourselves

What Lies Are You Telling Yourself?

Many of us are stuck in a role that was handed to us early in our lives.  We were told that we were good or no good at something.  Then it became our role to fulfill this projection that was put on us.  This became the truth that we live by.

Unfortunately many of us were told that we were no good with money.  To make sure that this projection was true we look for all the signs that make it so.  All signs that prove otherwise are ignored, denied and/or disproved.

What role with money was handed down to you?  How has it affected your life?

Love and peace,

  1. I was told that “money doesn’t grow on trees”. My mother was so fruggle that she would say this each time I wanted to buy some new modern clothes. In her mind the old ones were still good and wearable. Good and wearable meant that they didn’t have holes but could very well be old fashioned and stretched out. I don’t think that we ever donated any clothes to charity. By the time we were finished with them they were to worn out to donate.

I do purchase designer clothes but I search for a “good” price and will most likely choose something that will stand the test of time.

It is only recently that I have left that notion behind and purchase without pricing first. I purchase things that I love and feel great in. It is freeing and liberating not to worry or even think about the “price” or “cost” of something.

Try to give yourself a gift of free spending on at least some things in your life. And notice the difference in how you feel.

  2. Not spend outside your means, make envelopes and separate the money accordingly, always live within your means. I think the Great Generation had no choice but be very methodical and cautious in order to rebuild after the Great Depression and WWII. As a result it was passed down however our reality was much different and we grew up in a more consumption society where the temptations were and are much greater. So bargain hunting and shopping has always been part of who I am but is it always a saving? As Janet said, sometimes it is just great to go buy something without focusing on the price itself. Do your research and buy one good thing instead of 5 at a discount, appreciate it, enjoy it.
The times we live in are bringing us back, forcing us to review how we use our money.
