Keep Your Eyes On Where You Want To Go
When you are going across a narrow bridge, where is your focus? Is it on where you don’t want to go or on where you want to go? When we focus on where we don’t want to go it is amazing what happens. It is like it is a magnet and that is where we end up. Therefore we focus on the bridge to stay on the bridge, and if we want to get across to the other side then that is what we focus on.
This is a good advice for life also. Setting our sight on where we want to go is much better than the alternative, and it works much better and faster. Focusing on where we don’t want to go is a waste of energy and time (see my previous blog “What do we want in our life?”). It gets us nowhere if we are lucky or it gets us all the way to where we do not want to be.
A very simple demonstration of this is when a child is learning to ride a bicycle. In the beginning it is hard to keep the balance. The child is afraid of falling and getting hurt, and is mainly focused on that. As soon as they realize that they can keep the balance and not fall they stop looking down at the bicycle and the ground. Now they start looking forward to where they are going. Soon they are going all over the place, wherever their gaze is focused, which can be scary for the grownups. Then they learn to control the gaze so that there is a correlation between their gaze and where they want to go.
This is something that we never grow out of. Where we keep our gaze is where we go. Therefore it is important to know where we are heading. It is amazing what we can accomplish as soon as we know what we want to do and we can see the end result. When our eyes wander so does our path. So if we look to the end result and keep our focus there then we will be able to figure out ways around things that others might see as obstacles and even use them as springboards to get us faster to the end. This trip might be full of adventure and it is in the journey and the enjoyment of the journey that we live the life of abundance.
Love and peace,

[...] I had set out to do one thing and then the circumstances changed. Did this change mean that everything was lost? In the past I would have been devastated by a change like this and started thinking that everything was lost. With that negative mindset and the focus on “all is lost” the result would have been just that, everything lost (see my blog “Keep Your Eyes On Where You Want To Go”). [...]
